Nueces Canyon Heritage and Visitor Center Celebrates Fruitful First Fundraiser

Friday night, May 1 was a wonderful evening at the new Nueces Canyon Heritage and Visitor Center in Camp Wood.  The event was a reception recognizing the 22 amazing art pieces donated by local artists to benefit the Center, and it was also the final bidding opportunity for the auction.  The weather collaborated with the party, allowing a brief tour of the Mission San Lorenzo de la Santa Cruz site, where visitors were introduced to the story of the Mission and layout of the site.  Once inside, visitors were delighted with a presentation by Jan Prather, president of the Nueces Canyon Mission Restoration Organization, outlining the recent history and interest in the Mission Site and outlining the vision for the future of the site with the Heritage and Visitor Center right next door.

The Nueces Canyon Heritage and Visitor Center wishes to thank all those who attended, made a donation, bid on art, or donated art to this fundraiser.  Over $8k was raised by the auction items, and with the pledged match donation, that means over $16k will be added to the NCMRO building purchase fund and general budget from this event.

Thanks to Mary Lois Friday Hulseman for the matched donation pledge.

Thanks also go to Canyon BBQ and Grill for a sponsoring refreshments with an absolute killer charcuterie buffet, and local musician Lisa Harvey for setting the mood with her amazing guitar playing.

While the auction is over, donations are still accepted and the match donation has been extended through the end of May.  All donations are tax deductible and will be matched if received before May 31.  Visit missionsanlorenzo.com to see the link to donate or reach out at the facebook page, @Friends of San Lorenzo Mission Center.
